The Mix approach

Ensuring inclusive and equitable practices

At Mix, we understand that fostering an inclusive environment requires more than just policy changes and training programs. It demands robust DEI governance that integrates these values into the very fabric of your organisation. There are many ways to structure the accountability and governance of DEI work, but our service typically cover the following areas:

1. Assessment and Benchmarking

We begin with a thorough audit of your current DEI policies, practices, and culture – collecting qualitative and quantitative data through surveys, interviews, and document reviews. We benchmark your organisation against industry standards and best practices to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.

2. Governance Framework Development

Based on the results of our assessment, we’ll then get to work building a bespoke DEI governance framework tailored to your organisation’s needs. This framework may include establishing DEI committees, ERGs or councils, defining roles and responsibilities, setting clear goals and metrics, and developing reporting structures to ensure ongoing oversight and accountability.

3. Policy and Process Integration

True inclusivity requires more than just good intentions; it demands systematic change. We’ll meticulously review and revise your existing policies, from recruitment and retention to performance management and supplier diversity, to eliminate biases and promote fairness in every aspect of your organisation.

4. Training and Capacity Building

Effective DEI governance requires informed and committed leadership. We can provide comprehensive training for your entire organisation, from DEI board briefings and leadership training to a flexible DEI learning library for every member of staff. All our training is available in-person or online.

5. Monitoring and Reporting

Continuous improvement is key to successful DEI governance. We’ll work with you to establish mechanisms for regular monitoring and reporting on DEI progress, including setting up dashboards, periodic reviews, and providing recommendations for ongoing improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions

DEI Governance is the structured management and oversight of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives within an organisation. It’s crucial because it ensures accountability, transparency, and sustainability of DEI efforts, integrating these principles into your strategic decision-making processes.

Mix’s DEI Governance service goes beyond standard DEI training and workshops. It involves a comprehensive framework that aligns DEI goals with your organisational structure and business objectives, ensuring these values are embedded into every aspect of your operations. This may include establishing DEI committees and ERGs, integrating DEI into policies and processes, continuous monitoring, and reporting mechanisms to maintain accountability and drive sustained progress.

Our DEI Governance work will be tailored to your organisation, taking your existing frameworks and resources into account, but typically includes the following 5 stages:

  1. Conducting a thorough assessment of your current DEI policies and practices.
  2. Developing a bespoke governance framework tailored to your organisation’s needs.
  3. Integrating DEI principles into existing policies and processes.
  4. Providing training and capacity-building.
  5. Establishing mechanisms for regular monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement.

The timeline for seeing the impact of DEI Governance can vary based on the size and complexity of your organisation and the current state of your DEI initiatives. Generally, though, you may start to see initial changes within a few months, with more significant, sustained impact becoming evident over 12-18 months as new policies and practices take root and cultural shifts begin to occur.

We’ll measure the success of your DEI Governance initiative through a combination of quantitative and qualitative metrics. This includes tracking changes in diversity demographics, employee engagement and satisfaction surveys, retention rates, and the effectiveness of DEI-related policies and practices. Regular reporting and dashboard tools provide ongoing insights, while periodic reviews and assessments ensure continuous improvement and alignment with organisational goals.
